STUDENTS RANK NIAGARA COLLEGE #1 FOR SIXTH STRAIGHT YEAR
| Submitted: April 14th, 2010 By: |
For the sixth straight year, Niagara College has ranked number one in student satisfaction among all Ontario Colleges according to the results of the provincially-mandated Key Performance Indicator (KPI) survey, released today.
Overall, 83.1 percent of students said they are satisfied with the education they are receiving at Niagara College according to the results of this year’s KPI survey.
“Our continued success in this area speaks to the hard work and dedication of our staff and faculty, who put the success of our students first in everything they do,” said Niagara College President Dan Patterson. “To receive such high ratings from our students during a time of unprecedented enrolment growth - which has put a strain on our facilities and services - is a true reflection of the quality of our team here at Niagara College.”
Student satisfaction isn’t the only area where Niagara College scores high. The results show that Niagara is above or near the provincial average in all areas of the survey, including graduate employment rate, employer satisfaction and graduate satisfaction. More than 93 percent of employers indicated satisfaction with the graduates they hired, with 79 percent of graduates satisfied with their education. More than 86 percent of the College’s 2009 graduates were employed within six months of graduation.
“These results certainly highlight the value of a College education,” said Patterson. “To have a graduate employment rate of over 86 percent in challenging economic times is very significant.”
The KPI survey is administered at all 24 Ontario colleges each year by an independent research firm for the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU).
The student satisfaction portion of the survey measures satisfaction in four key areas of college life. Niagara College’s results show:
● 91.3 percent of students said they are satisfied that their program is providing the knowledge and skills that will be useful in their future careers; ● 86.1 percent said they are satisfied with the overall quality of the learning experiences in their program;
● 77.5 percent said they are satisfied with the quality of facilities and resources at the College;
● 77.5 percent said they are satisfied with the overall quality of the services at Niagara College.
The KPI data also shows that Niagara College had a graduation rate of 65.8 percent for 2009, which is above the provincial average, and marks the third straight year that Niagara College’s graduation rate has exceeded 65 percent.
