NIAGARA COLLEGE CULINARY APPRENTICE WINS GOLD

Submitted: May 25th, 2010
By:

A Niagara College culinary apprentice captured gold at the Concours International des Jeunes Chefs Rôtisseurs competition for working apprentices in Ontario, which took place recently in Toronto.

Alex Stott, who is apprenticing at the Royal York Hotel, competed against fellow Niagara College apprentice, Devon Pierce, and four others for a chance to represent Ontario at the National level, on behalf of The Toronto Baillage of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, in Vancouver later this fall.

The competition featured a black box format, equipping all five competitors with identical mystery ingredients to prepare a menu of their choosing, with no pre-determined themes or topics. Certain ingredients were deemed mandatory, as each competitor was required to produce four individual servings of an appetizer, main course and dessert in three-and-a-half hours.

Earlier this year, Niagara College students Devon Pierce and Tanner Murray were also the recipients of a $5,000 Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Scholarship to complete an internship with Chef Anton Mosimann in London, England. The students were chosen based on an essay submission and interview with members of the Conseil of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs in Toronto.

The Chaîne des Rôtisseurs is an international gastronomic society founded in Paris in 1950. It is devoted to promoting fine dining and preserving the camaraderie and pleasures of the table. For more information, visit www.chainetoronto.com.
