Chamber Launches GobidNiagara.com
| Submitted: June 07th, 2010 By: |
Niagara’s new public procurement portal is now live. With the support of the Canadian government’s Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario and its Community Adjustment Fund, the St. Catharines – Thorold Chamber of Commerce has officially launched www.gobidniagara.com.
“Gobidniagara.com has been designed to permit all public institutions in Niagara to place their tendered contracts on a regional site for businesses to easily access,” explains Walter Sendzik, CEO of the St. Catharines – Thorold Chamber of Commerce. “The site allows more businesses to spend their valuable time preparing bids rather than chasing them down.”
The procurement portal was built with funding from the federal government’s Community Adjustment Fund, which was announced in January by St. Catharines M.P. Rick Dykstra. “I believe GoBidNiagara will save private businesses time and money and give governments more options when choosing the recipients of public contracts,” says St. Catharines M.P. Dykstra after viewing the completed portal.
Based on research conducted by the Chamber, approximately $500 million is procured annually through public institutions in Niagara. This includes the school boards, hospitals, regional and municipal governments, Brock University and Niagara College.
"The launch of gobidniagara.com creates a one-stop on-line location for the interaction between public institutions and private business for publicly tendered contracts in Niagara,” continues Sendzik. “It’s open and accessible for all businesses.”
“This is another example of the Chamber working on behalf of its membership,” adds David DiFelice, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Chamber. “This was an identified need by our membership, and we’ve fulfilled that need with gobidniagara.com.”
With over 1,130 members representing more than 29,000 employees, it is the largest chamber in Niagara, and one of the largest in Southern Ontario. The Chamber Accreditation Council of Canada has recognized the St. Catharines – Thorold Chamber of Commerce with its highest distinction.
